If you have valuable items that you keep in your home, it might be smart to find a place to store them that isn’t obvious. When you keep every piece of expensive jewelry in your house in the same jewelry box, you can bet that if a burglar ever does enter your home, they will know exactly where to find your jewelry and leave with the box and its entire contents.
What a burglar doesn’t usually have a lot of is time. If you can hide your valuables in clever places, an intruder won’t usually take the time to search for items in places that aren’t obvious.
So here’s our list of a few simple ideas of great places to hide your valuables.
- Turn a large stuffed animal into a secret safe. A burglar won’t spend much time in a children’s room, so opening up a stuffed animal and using it to store valuables, even with something as simple as a velcro closure, can keep your items away from prying eyes.
- In a bin or box in your basement or garage. No one has time to sort through all the stuff you are storing, so creating a false bottom in a bin or box that is full of more miscellaneous item on top may be the perfect hiding spot.
- In the vacuum bag of a non-working vacuum cleaner. Your local thrift store probably has a lot of vacuum cleaners for bargain prices. You can turn it into a safe that hides in plain sight.
- A hidden safe. Online retailers sell all kinds of clever hidden safes that can offer you peace of mind.
